Mendez named AD3I baseball Player of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – St. Joseph's College (N.Y.) junior outfielder Joe Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y.) is this week's Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Mendez was St. Joseph's leading run producer with his eight RBI during the week as the Bears went 3-4. The junior hit .370 (10-for-27) during the week with seven runs scored, a home run and four doubles. The outfielder had a team-high .630 slugging percentage while also carrying a .419 on base percentage. Mendez became the first player in St. Joseph's history with 100 RBI with his RBI double in the first inning of game one at SUNY IT, finishing the game 2-for-4 at the plate. The junior had his best game of the week in game two at SUNY IT as he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI and a home run, his fourth of the season. Mendez is now second on the team with a .398 batting average and leads the team with 39 RBI and 18 doubles.
