OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – University of California Santa Cruz junior guard Jared Ponce (Chino Hills, Calif.) has been awarded the Association of Division III Independents men's basketball Player of the Week. Ponce started his 2014-15 season with a pair of 20-point outings against Dallas and Redlands. The junior poured in 21 points against Dallas on November 15th, going 5-of-9 from the field and an impressive 10-of-12 from the charity stripe. The guard followed that performance up with a 22-point effort versus the Redlands, draining 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Ponce capped off the week with a strong 23-point performance against Linfield on November 23rd, finishing 6-of-10 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line. The junior ended the week with 20.8 points per game and went 29-of-36 (80.6 percent) from the free throw line as the Banana Slugs went 2-2 to begin the season.
