NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle overcame a six point halftime deficit to emerge with a 75-69 win over Centenary College this evening at the Wellness Center on the CNR campus. With the win, the Blue Angels reach the 10 win mark for the second straight season.
Alyssa Pechin and Jasmine Brandon paced five Blue Angels in double figures with 18 points apiece. Brandon added eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Jah-Leah Ellis added 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Ja'Nasha King and Nubia Weekes chipped in with 11 points each.
Mallory George led the Cyclones with a game-high 24 points while Klarissa Perry added 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Neither team grabbed control in the first half until the Cyclones closed out the opening stanza with an 11-4 run to take a six point lead 37-31 into the intermission.
The College of New Rochelle opened the second stanza with an 8-2 run to knot the score at 39, but Centenary countered with a 5-0 run to regain the lead. The lead proved to be short lived as the Blue Angels rallied to regain the lead, a lead they maintained over the final 16 minutes to earn the victory.
The double digit win total is the first for the CNR program since the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 seasons.
