NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Jah-Leah Ellis and Jasmine Brandon combined for 67 points as The College of New Rochelle posted an 88-81 victory over St. Joseph's College-LI tonight at the Wellness Center on the CNR campus.
Ellis became the first Blue Angel since the 2007-08 season to post a 30-20 night, recording 32 points and a game-high 22 rebounds, adding five assists. Brandon added a game-high 35 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Christina Cohen paced the Eagles with 32 points.
CNR posted a decisive edge in rebounding, posting a 53-28 advantage, converting that into a 58-26 edge in points in the paint.
The Blue Angel duo tallied 47 of the 57 Blue Angel points in the second half as CNR overcame a nine point, 39-30, deficit at the half. A 24-9 dominance of the glass in the second stanza did not deter the comeback effort.
St. Joe's scored the first eight points of the game and led by as many as 11 in the first half, holding the lead for all but 38 seconds over the first 20 minutes to carry the lead into the locker room.
The Eagles kept on the right side of the ledger for the first eight minutes of the second stanza, but the Blue Angels were not to be denied, using a 17-3 run to turn a 53-51 deficit into a 68-56 lead with 8:45 left. The Eagles did not get closer than six the rest of the way.
With the win, CNR ups its record to 11-7, and has now increased its win total each of the last five seasons.
