OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents named Mount Mary University women's basketball forward/guard Chrisandra Freeman its Female Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of February.
Freeman, a freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, had an outstanding month for the Blue Angels, averaging 17.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game as Mount Mary won two games during the month. The Blue Angels won five games this year after the program had only won once in the previous two seasons combined. The rookie stepped up as a scoring leader on a team with no upperclassmen, reaching double figures in scoring in six of Mount Mary's seven games. The forward/guard reached 22 points on two separate occasions including in a 71-56 win at Kuyper on February 7th. Freeman ended the month with two double-doubles including a 19-point, 16-rebound effort in the Blue Angels' first game of February, a 53-47 win over Illinois Tech on February 4th. The freshman also finished the month averaging 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game for Mount Mary.
