KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Utility player Carol Jeanne Kavanagh of St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) wasnamed today as the recipient of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month award for April.
Kavanagh, a senior from Queens, NY, led the Lady Bears to a 17-7 record for the month of April, which included an appearance in the USCAA National Tournament and a third straight Hudson Valley Athletic Conference regular-season title. The co-captain had a .537 batting average, a slugging percentage of .890 and an on-base percentage of .563. She collected 17 doubles, three triples and two home runs. Kavanagh also drove in 40 runs, had 13 stolen bases and scored 31 runs.
Kavanagh also was the recipient of the association's player-of-the-week award for April 16-23 when she had an impressive 22 runs batted in while batting .720 and slugging 1.240.
